Conjunctivitis is the medical term for the Pink Eye. It is a viral infection that occurs in the periphery of the eyelids. Herbal Remedies For Pink Eyes
Aloe Vera
This commonly available herb can be used both externally and can be consumed also. Aloe Vera Juice can be used as eyewash. Either take cotton pads and after soaking them in aloe Vera juice, compresses the eyes with it or this juice can be directly applied by taking it in eyewash cups and applied to the eyes. It can be consumed too to strengthen the eyes internally.
Chamomile
Pink eye can’t be well treated with another herb that is, chamomile, which is essentially antiseptic in nature. The best way to use it by adding an organic teabag of chamomile to one cup of boiling hot water and then it has to be steeped for about 10 minutes.
Once the mixture is cooled it becomes ideal eyewash to soothe the eyes. Not only this, even chamomile herbal tea is also absorbed in cotton wool pads and then used as cold compress to the eyes to get rid of the problem of pink eye.
Turmeric
A dried herb found in all Indian households, is equally good remedy for conjunctivitis. Two teaspoons of turmeric powder when boiled with one cup of water and then this preparation is used for giving a warm compress to the eyes to alleviate it of its problem.
Fennel
To reduce the itching, pain, swelling and redness, one can use this seeds by boiling it in the water for about 20 minutes and then strain it. This fennel seed solution can be then cooled and used as a compress as well as n eyewash for treating the eyes that is affected with conjunctivitis.
Elderberry Flower
Like the other herbs elderberry flowers are also used to treat conjunctivitis by either using it as a cold compress. The elderberry flower tea is also used, no, not for drinking but actually applying it as eyewash.
The tea has to be strained, then cooled and after that it is poured in eye washing cups .the affected eyes are then dipped one by one in this cup to wash away the infection.
Chickweed
This herb is an age old treatment for the sore eyes. It is instrumental in healing the inflammation and combats the infection both externally and internally. This herb helps in eliminating the redness, itching, and dryness caused by the pink eye syndrome.
Chickweed powder available in the grocery store, is required to be boiled in water in the ratio of 1:10 and then after cooling and straining it can be applied to the affected area with the help of cooing wool pads. This compress can be repeated as many times as possible.
