Breast Infections usually occur in lactating mothers and pregnant women. The medical term used for this disease is Mastitis. This is generally of two types that are Adenitis and Cellulitis. In either case infection can occur only in one breast at a time. Echinacea
Echinacea root is the most readily available herb and is known to be the best remedy for a woman with breast infections.
A single dose of two droppers full of its tincture, twelve times a day is enough to relieve the person of infection. Depending on the intensity of the infection one can continue its dosage for a week till the symptoms subside
Poke Root
This herb is potent and helps in getting rid of the infection quickly as it stimulates the lymph gland. Its tincture can be diluted and consumed.
It is even toxic in nature hence a lot of caution should be practiced while dealing with it. In case of severe and acute infection, one can even combine it with Echinacea and taken to get faster results.
Parsley
This edible herb is used as a poultice when it is fresh and when dried it can be wrapped in a diaper, and this diaper can be dipped in a pan of hot water and then compressed on to the infected breast, for about 15 minutes. Not only it alleviates the person from pain, it even reduces the swelling and diminishes the infection.
Comfrey
The comfrey herbs can be prepared in a similar pattern as the parsley leaves were prepared and then this hot compress is used on the swollen breasts for about 15 minutes.
This ensures the unblocking of milk ducts, thus softening of the tissues in the breast and returning it in a normal state. It however can be harmful for the child’s liver hence mothers use it externally and use a lot of precaution.
Marshmallow
These wonderful herbs are used as soaks that relax the sore nipples, soften the hardened breast by opening the clogged milk ducts. As these herbs are anti-inflammatory they get rid of the infection and remove the redness of the breast that causes immense pain.
The best way to prepare a soak is by drying marshmallow leaves and steeping it in boiling water proportionately and keeps brewing it overnight. The preparation should get slimy and slippery. This preparation can then be poured in a bathtub or a basin and the infected breast can be soaked. This ritual can be performed till the breasts are completely cured.
