Bedwetting is medically also termed as Enuresis or incontinence. Passing urine in bed at night during sleep is common for small kids in their very early stages. But, in general, bladder control is naturally established after a certain age (4-6 years). However, a large number of children in the world remain exceptions and they suffer from the problem of bedwetting even after the age of eight.
Though the condition goes away without any treatment as the child grows much older, considering the fact that it is a very embarrassing situation for the kid and a big problem for the parents also, it is always advisable to try certain natural remedies to treat bedwetting faster.
Natural Cure For Bedwetting
Black Pepper Powder And Indian Gooseberry
You can prepare a very effective home remedy for bedwetting by mixing 1/8 tsp. of black pepper powder with one tsp. of the pulp of amla (Indian gooseberry). Taking this mixture right before the child retires to bed at night will prevent bedwetting.
Black Sesame Seeds, Celery Seeds And Jaggery
Many children suffer from bedwetting only during cold weather. In such cases, you can prepare a home remedy by mixing equal quantities of black sesame seeds, celery seeds and jaggery. Taking one tsp. of this mixture everyday in the morning with a cup of milk can be very beneficial. The mixture brings harmless heating effects in the body and also enhances bladder control, which prevents bedwetting. For best results, you should repeat this remedy daily, consistently for one month.
Cranberry Juice
Drinking one glass of fresh cranberry juice is another wonderful natural cure for bedwetting. Ask your kid to drink the juice at last 30 minutes before retiring to bed. In general, it is not advisable for the kid to drink fluids right before bedtime, but this rule does not apply for cranberry juice.
Cranberry juice has been found to be very helpful to improve the functions of the urinary tract, the bladder and the kidneys. Drinking this juice right before bedtime helps in establishing bladder control.
Raisins And Walnuts
The best thing about this remedy is that it does not look like a medical or medicinal approach. More than a natural remedy, it is a tasty snack, which is highly effective and can even cure the condition completely. You just have to give your child 1 tsp. of raisins and 2 tsp. of walnuts right before he/she goes to sleep.
Urination Exercise
It sounds funny but can be very effective. As per this natural remedy, the child should be taught to delay a bit every time he/she feels the urge to urinate during daytime.
This simple urination exercise will train the bladder and related muscles that they should not pass urine without the child’s permission. This exercise, when done regularly, will wake the child up whenever they feel the urge to urinate during sleep.
Asian Herb Equisetum
Asian herb Equisetum is a very popular herbal remedy for bedwetting. It decreases anxiety, tones the urinary tract tissues and strengthens weak bladders.
Besides using the above natural remedies, you are also advised to follow some basic tips to prevent and treat bedwetting. For example, the child must be taught to develop a habit of passing urine right before he/she goes to sleep. Likewise, drinking lots of water or fluids 1-2 hours before bedtime should also be avoided.
