A furuncle or boil as it is commonly called is a result of bacterial infection around a hair follicle. It contains pus and is very contagious if not treated on time. Garlic or Astralagus
Garlic is a natural antibiotic and is used in the treatment of various infectious diseases. Take a clove of garlic and eat it early in the morning every day. It will boost your immune system and prevent other infections as well.
You can also take garlic capsules if the smell irritates you. Else, make herbal tea from astralagus and drink at least 7-8 glasses of this tea every day for few days to cure furuncles. Astralagus tea also strengthens your immune system.
Calendula or Goldenseal Root
Calendula ointment is also a natural antiseptic and is used as an effective herbal remedy for furuncles. Apply calendula ointment on the affected area two to three times daily to reduce the inflammation and pain.
You can also make use of goldenseal root powder. Add the powder to boiling water to make a smooth paste and apply it on the boils. This would help the pus to come out and treat the boils effectively. Apply the paste at least twice daily to get the desired results.
Slippery Elm And Eucalyptus
Take a slippery elm bark and grind it to make a powder. Take about 25-30 gm of this power and add 3-4 drops of eucalyptus oil. Add boiling water and mix well to make a paste. Apply this paste on the boils and let it cool down.
Do not was away but gently remove the dried up paste. Reapply the paste again. Continue this till the entire pus has been drawn out. Even figwort and marshmallow leaves can be used for this purpose.
Tea Tree Oil
This is also a useful herbal remedy for furuncles. Tea tree oil is available in all local medical shops. Applying tea tree oil externally can kill germs like bacteria and fungus.
This would help in reducing the inflammation and pain. It can cause irritation but add few drops of vegetable oil to the tea tree oil to avoid this. Tea tree oil should not be taken internally.
Echinacea
Take about 2 parts of wild indigo and add it one part of Echinacea, poke root and pasque flower. Simmer these in water for few minutes to make an herbal tea.
Strain and drink this tea. This tea should be taken internally 3-4 times daily to speed up the healing process. You can apply this externally on the boils to prevent further infection. These are few of the effective ways of treating boils. Avoid spicy food and eat a lot of green vegetables.
