Lower back pain or Lumbago is a very common skeletal disorder that is ailing a lot of people all over the world. The specific cause of lumbago has not been identified yet but the pain can be caused by muscle pain, joint pain, postural pain, damaged invertebral disks etc.

Cold Compress
You can use ice to cold compress the area of pain if you are suffering from lumbago. Put liberal amount of ice cubes in a plastic bag and wrap the whole thing in a towel. Apply this ice pack to the affected within twenty four hours of getting the pain until the pack comes to room temperature.
Compressing with ice pack reduces lumbago by reducing the inflammation and restricting the ability of nerves to send pain signals to brain. Do it regularly for at least a week to get good results.
Hot Bath
If twenty four hours have crossed since you start having the pain, ice pack will not give you much benefit. In that case, you can take a hot bath to relieve you from lumbago. Fill your tub with hot water and soak in it for about twenty minutes.
Hot water will help to increase the elasticity of the muscles and hence reduce the inflammation. You can also add a bit of salt to the water. Salt has its own healing properties and helps to reduce the pain.
Garlic
Garlic has anti-inflammatory properties and thus reduces muscle inflammation, reducing lower back pain. You can use garlic oil to massage the affected area. The garlic oil is prepared by frying some cloves in 60ml of sesame oil or mustard oil or coconut oil.
The cloves should be fried until they turn brown and the oil once cooled should be applied to the affected area and allowed to remain there for about three hours. After this you can take a hot bath. This treatment should be continued for at least fifteen days.
Back Massage
A good back massage done in a specific way will also help you to reduce lumbago. Ask someone in your house to massage your lower back, by kneading the lower back muscles, while you lie face down.
This massage will give you relief from the pain by loosening the lower back muscles to some extent. You can get this massage done at night for about two weeks to get a relief from lumbago.
Wheat, Coriander, Cuscus And Milk
You can also prepare a mixture using these ingredients and drink that to reduce lumbago. Soak about 60 gm of wheat overnight and add two teaspoon of cuscus powder and coriander in the morning. Blend this mixture into a paste and add this to 250 ml of milk.Boil it for about ten minutes and drink this once it turns lukewarm. This mixture acts as a natural pain killer and based on only home ingredients, this will definitely not have any side effects. Continue this for about a week and you will get positive results.
