Mouth ulcers are sores that appear on the inside of the cheeks, lips or on the tongue. These sores can cause severe discomfort while eating, drinking or talking. Mouth ulcers can occur due to stress, hormonal imbalance, certain foods, accidentally biting cheeks or tongue, acidity, nutritional deficiency etc.
There Are Several Home Remedies That Can Give Quick Relief From Mouth Ulcers:
Sesame Oil:
Gargle with sesame oil every night before going to sleep and every morning on an empty stomach. This is called oil pulling or oil swishing and is an effective Ayurvedic remedy. This process detoxifies our body through the mouth. Regular practice of oil pulling strengthens immunity, cures acidity and bad breath.
Coconut:
Chew a piece of coconut slowly or gargle for a few minutes with coconut milk or coconut oil. Coconut has antiviral, antibacterial properties that help the mouth ulcers heal faster and also soothes the pain.
Licorice:
Licorice contains a compound glycyrrhizin, which is anti-inflammatory and helps the sores heal faster. Apply licorice root extract frequently on the sore until it heals.
Turmeric Powder:
Turmeric is an antiseptic and cooling agent and helps the sores heal faster. Mix turmeric with water and make a paste. Apply on the affected area as and when necessary.
Honey:
Honey has antiseptic properties and helps make the healing process faster. Apply a little honey on sores to get relief from pain. Honey helps retain moisture and hastens new tissue growth.
Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is anti-inflammatory and helps reduce acidity, thereby healing mouth ulcers. It has a soothing effect on the sores and alleviates the pain. Apply Aloe Vera gel 2 to 3 times a day for faster relief or drink Aloe Vera juice.
Coriander Seeds:
Coriander seeds are an effective remedy for mouth ulcers. Boil 2 teaspoons of coriander seeds with a glass of water. Strain the water and drink it twice daily until you get relief from mouth ulcers.
Basil Leaves:
Basil leaves have several health benefits. They have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties and help the sores heal faster. Having basil leaves regularly have also been found to reduce stress, one of the key reasons for mouth ulcers. Chew 4-5 basil leaves 2 to 3 times a day for relief from mouth ulcers.
